A consumer complaint is when a person has lodged an official complaint against a food retail facility to a health department. In certain jurisdictions, a consumer complaint will trigger a health inspection for that particular facility. These inspections are similar to routine inspections, but the biggest difference is the purpose and timing of the inspection. While routine inspections typically occur 1-2 times a year for a facility, inspections triggered by a consumer complaint may occur at any time.
