Typically, Health Departments inspect retail food establishments within their jurisdiction, which usually include all restaurants, grocery stores, and mobile food facilities. However, each state is able to define its own scope of services. In certain cases, a state's Department of Agriculture may be assigned to conduct inspections for grocers or expand a Health Department's responsibilities to include inspections for tattoo parlors and swimming pools. Hazel attempts to capture inspection data for as many retail food establishments as possible and will occasionally acquire Department of Agriculture data.
